Description
I think this is an Victorian period undergarment as it is shaped that way, and it is sleeveless. They wore so many layers in that era that this piece would probably have been worn underneath an elaborate gown of some kind. It is made of white cotton with buttons running down the left side to do it up. It has lace trim on the neckline, armholes and ruffled hem. It has a fitted waist and is bell shaped from the waist down. This would be a perfect summer dress to wear with a little lace jacket. It is also a bigger size than was usually found during this period. The condition is antique good, and it is very wearable. It has two pin dot holes at the right shoulder near the lace. It has a light yellow spot about an inch in diameter on the skirt about thigh height. It has two holes in the lace ruffle at the bottom of the skirt which lays against the solid cotton ruffle underneath so they are not noticeable in the folds and against the cotton. There are no big stains, rust spots, pit stains, tears, rips or rot. It is totally wearable as is.
The measurements of the slip/dress petticoat taken laid flat and measured straight across are:
shoulder to shoulder 15 1/2"
bust 19"
waist 17"
hips 23"
shoulder to waist 15"
shoulder to hem 55 1/2"
8 buttons running down the left side
