Production manager’s notebook - Vanity Fair underwear and stockings - 1922-1929
Production manager’s notebook for Vanity Fair underwear and stockings.  Kept by Howard B. Snader.  [Reading, Pennsylvania]: 1922-1929.
This 5” x 7.5” faux leather notebook contains 120 pages chock full of manuscript production tables, sizing information, test results, assorted notes, clothing labels, elastic samples, receipts, correspondence, certifications and more.  A six-page pamphlet extract with information about an automatic sewing machine is laid in.  All of the contents are in very nice shape.  The notebook corner shows some wear and is missing its spine covering.
Vanity Fair, which has grown into a billion clothing conglomerate (Wrangler, Lee, Jansport, Northface, Vans, Timberland, Nautica, etc.) began in 1899 as a Pennsylvania glove and mitten company.  As fancy glove sales began to wane in the 1910s, it added underwear to its line.  Silk underwear was added in 1913; rayon, rayon-blends, and hosiery were added in the 1920s.  The company began to use elastic
for its girdles and bras in the 1930s.  During the World War II years, the company devoted all of its production
    lines
to make parachutes.  After the war, it began to only use nylon in its products and led in developing pleating, color, and print processes.
In the late 1960s, the company changed its name to the VF Corporation and began buying up other companies.  Interestingly, in 2007, VF Corporation left the lingerie business completely and sold its Vanity Fair subsidiary to Fruit of the Loom.
Snader was an important member of the company’s leadership team and served in a variety of positions including Production Manager, Sales Manager, and Treasurer. No doubt a competitor would have loved to find this notebook left lying around on a restaurant table, lounge bar, or restroom vanity.
    Obviously,
a unique record of a classic American company’s early years as it built itself into major lingerie supplier.

    Payment
PayPal is preferred for both US and international payments.
Other methods of payment may be possible.
    Shipping
    Domestic Shipping.
Most orders are shipped to locations in the US at no additional cost. If not, shipping costs are set at a flat rate on an item-by-item basis.
Media mail shipping--when available and appropriate--is inexpensive but may take between two and four weeks, especially if delivery is to the west coast. If a quick delivery is important to you, please request USPS Priority Mail or some other expedited delivery service before paying.
International Shipping. International shipping is usually done through the eBay Global Shipping Program.  I know that this can be expensive, but I've switched to this method because I've had too many claims of non-receipt by international buyers.  If you contact me in advance of purchase it may be possible for me to ship directly to you.
If I ship directly, I will only ship overseas using a trackable method; this can be expensive, and it is non-negotiable.  Also, I will only enter true information on customs forms; if you  have a problem paying your nation's customs fees, that is beteen you and your government, I have nothing to do with it.
If you pay by PayPal, I will only ship to the shipping address specified by PayPal.
All shipments are covered by my business insurance at my expense, however if you would like to purchase additional USPS insurance at your expense, let me know, and I'll adjust your invoice accordingly.
