    Description

This beatiful carved black pottery was handed down to me by my mother; who purchased it on a trip to New Mexico. My parents back in the 50's and 60's  would drive down that way vacationing. My mother puchased this beatiful pice and it has been treated with tender loving care. It is a treasue to behold!
Rose Cata Gonzales was born in San Juan Pueblo around the turn of the century. In 1930 she also began her innovative process of deep carved pottery. Her carved black ware pottery was an original creation. During the 1930s and 40s she tradedthese innovative pots for food, allowing her to feed her large family.  By the 1970s she had received numerous awards from the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial and had become a well-known and successful potter. Rose had a major influence onpottery making at San Ildefonso and today her pieces have become highly valuedby collectors. She died in 1989.
This piece is like new condition with no chips, cracks, no flaws, like new.
