Description
US Army cavalrymen out on the Plains in the Indian Wars were issued the Trapdoor Springfield carbine, as its shorter, lighter design made it easier to fire on horseback. The carbine was housed and attached to the saddle in the specially designed M-1885 "boot" scabbard. Original US Indian Wars M-1885 carbine boot scabbards are quite rare today, so over the last 20 years, some faithful recreations have been introduced. This US Army Indian Wars TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD CAVALRY CARBINE M-1885 BOOT SCABBARD is a high quality MODERN REPRODUCTION. It's in very good condition, with some scattered scratching and wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the tough black leather construction. Most interestingly, it's unmarked as to its maker, boasts the classic matching leather cross straps and vertical saddle attaching strap, and is a fine representation of a US Army Indian Wars TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD CAVALRY CARBINE M-1885 BOOT SCABBARD. We have shown a photo of a US cavalryman in the late 19th century using a similar boot scabbard to secure his Trapdoor carbine. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
